Resumo
A deficiência é a perda ou anormalidade de estrutura ou função psicológica, fisiológica ou anatômica. O comprometimento da função física ocorre quando existe a ausência de um membro (amputação); deformação ou má formação; e alterações funcionais motoras provenientes de lesão do sistema nervoso. Durante a reabilitação motora do membro superior, é comum a utilização de órteses como recurso terapêutico complementar para prevenir deformidades, auxiliar na função que está comprometida, proteger contra lesão e estabilizar ou imobilizar. O objetivo do estudo foi verificar como as órteses artesanais podem contribuir no processo de reabilitação de voluntários com deficiência física no membro superior. O estudo foi realizado na Clínica Escola da FCM-CG, com quatro voluntários com deficiência física do membro superior, onde para avaliação foi utilizado Protocolo de Desempenho Físico de Fugl-Meyer. Os mesmos foram reavaliados numa periodicidade de um mês, de modo à aceitação ao tratamento, a durabilidade da órtese, o seu manuseio e a evolução da funcionalidade do membro. De acordo com os resultados não houve evolução do quadro clínico funcional nos voluntários acompanhados, após o uso das órteses. Foi verificada uma boa aceitação ao uso; entretanto, foram observados: desconforto na região do punho, formação de calo na base dos dedos e a necessidade de auxílio de terceiros para a colocação da órtese. A alteração mais comprometedora dos voluntários foi estender o punho e os dedos. Foi possível concluir na pesquisa grandes benefícios acerca da utilização desse suporte, porém, se faz necessário o desenvolvimento de novos estudos, de natureza longitudinal e com maiores números de voluntários, para obtenção de melhores resultados.

Abstract
The deficiency is the loss or abnormality of structure or psychological, physiological or anatomical function. The impairment of physical function occurs when there is absence of a limb (amputation); deformation or malformation; and motor functional alterations resulting from damage to the nervous system. During motor rehabilitation of the upper limb it is common to use orthoses as a complementary therapeutic resource to prevent deformities, assist in the function that is compromised, protect against injury and stabilize or immobilize. The objective of the study was to verify how handmade orthoses can contribute to the rehabilitation process of patients with physical disability in the upper limb. The study was carried out at the FCM-CG Clinic School, with four participants with physical disability in the upper limb, where Fugl-Meyer’s Physical Performance Protocol was used for evaluation. Participants were reassessed at one month intervals in order to accept the treatment, the durability of the orthosis, its handling and the evolution of limb functionality. According to the results, there was no evolution of the functional clinical picture in the patients followed, after the use of the orthoses. Good acceptance of use was verified; however, were observed: discomfort in the wrist region, callus formation at the base of the fingers and the need for third-party assistance for the placement of the orthosis. The most compromising alteration of patients extend the wrist and fingers.It was possible to conclude in the research great benefits about the use of this support, however, it is necessary to develop new studies, of longitudinal nature and with greater numbers of volunteers, to obtain better results.
