ABSTRACT

Cerebral Palsy (CP) consists in a disease that may cause impairment, whether motor, in the postural mechanism and in the voluntary movement, causing limitations in activities of daily living, transfers and locomotion. The physical dependence of the child and the adolescent with CP can influence the life of their caregivers and relatives, since the fact of the care, might cause an imbalance and pain in the structures that make up the spine, like the low back pain. To verify the prevalence of low back pain and functional disability in the activities of daily living in caregivers of children and PC with CP. Thirty family caregivers of children with CP were interviewed using the visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Oswestry disability index (ODI), and the Chi-square and Fisher’s exact test were used for statistical analysis, which analyzed the relationship between the socio-bio-demographic variables of the caregivers and the presence of low back pain. Concerning the clinical data, it was verified that 80% of the caregivers presented low back pain, referring mostly light intensity (33.3%) and moderate intensity (33.3%). Moreover, it was observed that 43.3% had minimal disability followed by 16.7% with moderate disability. It was possible to observe that the referred sample presented a high prevalence of low back pain, mostly of mild and moderate intensity, causing, however, a minimal disability in their daily activities.
