Palavras-chave: Dor musculoesquelética, pontos-gatilho, dor cervical, agulhamento a seco.

ABSTRACT

Myofascial pain syndrome is an extremely common pathology, affecting an age range between 31 and 50 years. It is characterized by the presence of sensitive points in the strained muscle bands, and their signs and symptoms burning, weight, referred pain or local deficit of muscular strength and range of motion. Thus, among the techniques used for treatment of myofascial pain, dry needling is being widely used in seeking to minimize the symptoms of these individuals. A systematic review of randomized controlled trials, which aims to gather, evaluate and conduct a summary of the results of multiple primary studies on the topic proposed in this study. The papers were selected by searching the database of Pubmed, PEDro and SciELO, in Portuguese, Spanish and English between 2008 and 2016. We obtained 329 studies. Of these, 321 articles were excluded because they handle issues that are not directly relatedto the research. The dry needling is a valuable treatment for patients with myofascial pain syndrome in the cervical spine, due to its effectiveness in improving local pain or referred to, muscle relaxation and range of motion of the cervical muscles. The combination of these benefits is reflected in the quality of life of these patients.

Keywords: Musculoskeletal pain, trigger points, neck pain, dry needling.
